by PatrickCorcoran posted 06/11/2014
In a battle of a Fairfield County upstart program against two of the most successful and well-established programs in the state, the Stratford Sterling House Senior U-15 8A team won its CONNY bracket championship. Sterling House defeated Wilton in the semifinal game and then repeated the feat in the championship game against a tough Darien team. In the end, the Stratford boys had the opportunity to collect their CONNY Champion pins on the field at Yale's Reese Stadium and pose with the Yale Bulldog statue. Congratulations boys and good luck to those of you who will be playing at the high school level next season.
Gavin Scofield was named the 2014 recipient of the Bill Weissauer Award. The Weissauer Award is presented annually to the Most Improved Player at the Senior U-15 level. The Weissauer Award is presented in memory of Bill Weissauer, a long time Sterling House Lacrosse coach who emphasized fundamentals and sportsmanship. Congratulations Gavin!

Former Sterling House High School Players Pay it Forward
by PatrickCorcoran posted 04/27/2014
It may have been a little cold and breezy at Short Beach at 10 am on Sunday, April 27, but that did not stop more than a dozen Sterling House alumni who are current lacrosse players at St. Joseph High School, Stratford High School and Bunnell High School from coming out and "giving back" to the Sterling House youth lacrosse program. The players set up new lacrosse goals, lined the fields, served as sideline coaches, and refereed the Bantam house league games. The day was a great success and would not have been possible without their help. The high school players will continue to set up the field and help coach and referee the games on Sundays throughout the spring. The young U-9 players clearly were idolizing these fine young men. Thanks for setting a great example boys!
Thirty-three U-9 players participated in the first ever Sterling House Bantam house league games on April 27. As part of Sterling House's Learn to Play program, the U-9 players will play on Sundays at Short Beach in cross-field games. Playing on smaller fields than a usual regulation field with less players allows the younger players to touch the ball more while having to run less to engage in lacrosse action. The two fields were split with pre-K through 1st grade on one field and 2nd and 3rd graders on another field. It was a great sunny day down by the beach and the kids (and spectator parents) enjoyed some great lacrosse action.
